ESPAD 99 – Some main findings

 

SOME MAIN FINDINGS

 

• Drunkenness and binge drinking have increased in almost half of the countries
• Alcohol use is more prevalent in southern Europe
• Drunkenness is more prevalent in northern Europe
• The use of any illicit drug has increased in a large majority of the countries and to a large extent in Central and Eastern Europe
• However, high prevalence countries are still mainly found in Western Europe
